Parents and students are being urged to make sure they plan their transport for those going to college.
Dorset Council is reminding students that are going to sixth form or college that they will need to contact the bus company directly.
There is no automatic entitlement to home to school or college transport once you are over 16, even if free transport has been provided in the past.
All school transport for mainstream Dorset schools with sixth form provision is provided by independent bus companies.
A spokesperson for Dorset Council said: "Are you or your child going to sixth form or college to further your education? You will need to plan your transport too.
You will need to contact the bus company directly, depending on the school/college you will be attending."
