Popular storytelling tours at a historic Dorset landmark have been made accessible for those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

On selected dates across the summer the quirky storytelling tours at Corfe Castle will see a British Sign Language interpreter providing simultaneous interpretation alongside the popular Keeper of the Castle tours.

Sophie Trenchard, Visitor Experience Officer at Corfe Castle, said: “We are delighted to make our popular storytelling tours accessible to people who are deaf or have hearing impairments. Our Keeper of the Castle tours are wildly fun, and I can’t wait to see them being brought to life in this way along with being enjoyed by a new audience”.

During the fun and fact filled 45-minute tour, visitors are invited to travel through time from the period of the Normans to the 1980s while discovering some of the castle’s secrets and participating in interactive challenges.

Visitors will also learn how clever design and its strategic location helped Corfe Castle fulfil its role as a fortress, prison, and family home throughout a turbulent history.

There is also a smart phone, downloadable audio tour and information throughout the castle is also available in British Sign Language via a QR code.

The tours will take place on August 4, 10 and 17 at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3.30pm.
