BRADFORD Peverell Council were updated on various drainage works at their recent meeting.
Mr Ainslie gave a report on progress with the deflector and weir .
This controls the flow of water in the millstream.
Work has been completed on this project with one or two smaller jobs outstanding - footbridge rail and bridge strengthening.
The Environment Agency declined to help with the Dairy House hatch on the millstream, voluntary help may be the solution to this.
Concern had been expressed about the regular flooding on the spur road linking the village to the A 37.
This has happened regularly every winter over a great many years.
Responsibility has been established by DDC as being partly the railway, partly DCC and partly the landowners.
Hopefully remedies can be set in train.
Drainage problems have also been looked at around the area of Muckleford crossroads.
The gullies and the 'spring box' have been cleared and Muckleford has been placed on the same 6 monthly cleaning rotas as Bradford Peverell.
The 'letter box' gully and associated land drain will be replaced sometime but no funds are available at present.
The soakaway at Strap Bottom up the track to New Barn hopefully might be completed by Christmas.
Mr Ainslie was thanked for all his work in this area.
The meeting went on to discuss signage.
The Chair, Cllr Pat Burns, had collected all comments by councillors about signs in the village and the suggestions made by highways.
It was generally felt that a fingerpost at Giles Cross pointing to Bradford Peverell was superfluous as the village sign can be seen from these crossroads.
Slow signs and white lines have been painted on the river bridge at Muckleford.
It remains to be seen whether they have any affect and stop traffic regularly knocking the coping stones into the river.
Cllr Neil Howard reported that the Village Maintenance Unit was due this month and various jobs that need doing have been inspected.
Sureline have made minor alterations to bus times as reported in the Echo.
However no communication has been received from them.
Various planning issues were reviewed.
Cllr Jill Diment mentioned the foul smell that had pervaded the area recently, probably from sewerage used on the fields.
The clerk is to write to Environmental Health on this matter.
Next meeting is on Thursday 6th November.
