A COMMUNITY'S skatepark looks set to be refurbished - once funding is found and residents are asked for their views.
In February, a motion was put to Weymouth Town Council for a report to be produced on the redesign, development and installation of a new Littlemoor Skatepark.
Council officers put forward four options to the Environment and Services committee this month.
The committee decided to go ahead with one of the options which was a concrete refurbishment of the skatepark, which is off Louviers Road.
They also requested ongoing consultation with interested parties.
The council currently has no budget allocated for a revamp of the skatepark and various options are now being considered as to where the funding could come from, including from Dorset Council or a grant.
Cllr Louie O'Leary agreed to lead a group of interested parties in finding the money for the project.
Cllr O’Leary said: “In regard to funding, £475,000 is allocated for new existing open spaces (Dorset Council).
"I had a meeting with an officer for Dorset Council about this money, they said the decision on this money would be made at a later date.
"I think it would be good if there could be a party of people involved in this project to go out and find that money, I would be happy to head that up.
“There is not a massive rush for a skatepark, but we would like one.
“We don't want a mini refurbishment, I would like a full refurbishment of concrete similar to the one at The Marsh.
“If it is good enough for Westham it is good enough for Littlemoor."
Cllr Ryan Hope added: “I think obviously there has been public support for refurbishment of the skatepark.
“I think the support tonight in the right direction will help the local ward members find some of this money.
“It will show the town council supports this development.
“We now have costings and options.
“We need public engagement on which option to go for.”
The committee agreed to support the principle of a full refurbishment with concrete with ongoing consultation with residents and interested parties and for the Finance and Governance committee to start allocating funds for this.
This was unanimously agreed by committee members.
Information about the public consultation by the town council will be published at a later date.
