A school in Dorchester is looking to make the most of England's football triumph by giving its pupils a 'lie-in' the morning after the match.

With England vs Spain Euro 2024 finals match set to begin at 8pm on Sunday, The Prince of Wales School has decided to give its pupils an optional lie-in to recover from a late night of football.

The school will be open as normal, including the breakfast club, but pupils have been told they only have to be at school by 11am.

Headteacher Gary Spracklen said: "The best thing about memories is making them.

"As the England National Football Team stands on the edge of history, we are going to make the very most of this moment.

"On Sunday we warmly encourage every child to stay up and enjoy (we hope) the match. The event is a moment in history and we wouldn't want ‘being too tired for school’ to stand in the way of that.

"School will be open as normal, including the breakfast club. However, to support any little England fans who may need more time in bed, it will be optional to come in until 11am when we will close our morning register.

"Let’s dare to dream (again)… IT’S COMING HOME."

Tomorrow, Friday, July 12 will be an optional non-uniform day with a lunchtime street party outside the school.

After lunch, the pupils will enjoy 250 England Cakes baked by the Dorset Cake Company.

This will then be followed by lots of singing, dancing, face painting and flag-waving fun. Music will be provided by David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and the Lightning Seeds.

Prior to England's semi-final victory against the Netherlands, The Prince of Wales School released a video of its students and staff cheering on the Three Lions.
