Chickerell residents were awoken to a loud smash as a car crashed into a wall.
Shortly after midnight today, a white Volkswagen crashed into a driveway wall along Chickerell Road at Garston Hill.
One resident explained that they heard ‘hell of a bang’ during the early hours, whilst another revealed that he was ‘awoken to the sound of voices’ but just assumed that he had left the TV on.
Debris and bricks were left strewn across the pavement and police tape has been wrapped around the scene of the incident.
The electrical wiring of a nearby lamppost has also been left exposed.
Fortunately, no one was injured.
The Echo visited the scene this morning and the car had yet to be recovered.
The driver, who was at the scene, said that he had swerved to avoid an animal in the middle of the road which resulted in his vehicle colliding with the wall.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “At 12.27am on Thursday, July 11, we received a report that a car collided with a wall in Chickerell Road in Weymouth. No injuries were reported. No arrests were made. “
Speaking generally about driving in the area, one resident said: “I’m not referring to what has happened here, but this road was made 30mph about a year ago and the speeding along here is just unbelievable. There aren’t even any signs up.”
