Three people have been arrested following a major crash which flipped a car and injured three people.

Police, ambulance and fire were called at 7.25pm yesterday to a three-vehicle crash on Westleaze in Lower Burton near The Sun Inn pub.

One witness reports seeing the road closed with three smashed cars, including one on its side.

Three people were taken to hospital with what police say were minor injuries.

The road was closed between Lower Burton near The Sun Inn pub and was only re-opened at 5am this morning.

A man and a woman – both aged in their late teens and from Weymouth – and a woman aged in her 20s from the Dorchester area, were arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "At 7.25pm on Wednesday, July 10, we received a report of a three-vehicle road traffic collision on the Westleaze road in Lower Burton near The Sun Inn pub.

"Officers attended with the ambulance and fire services.

"The road was temporarily closed between Lower Burton near The Sun Inn pub.

"Three people were taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

"The local authority was notified of the incident, and the road was reopened at around 5am on Thursday, July 11."

A manager at the Sun Inn says they were able to stay open, helping to sort people as best they could.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: “We were called at 7.26pm to a road traffic collision in Dorchester. We sent three double-crewed land ambulances and an operations officer to the scene and conveyed two patients by land ambulances to Dorset County Hospital.”

A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: "We were called at 7.29pm yesterday with reports of a road traffic collision at Lower Burton. 

"Two fire engines from Dorchester were mobilised and on arrival found three vehicles involved and six people.   

"None of the casualties were trapped and crews worked to make the scene safe and provided casualty care."
