The A35 was blocked due to a vehicle fire

Dorset Police received a report of a vehicle fire in a layby near to the Stinsford Roundabout on the A35 near Dorchester. 

People were diverted around Stinsford Hill and traffic delays were reported in the area. 

Officers and a fire engine from Dorchester were sent to the scene. 

One private car was found "well alight."

Two breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets to extinguish the the fire.

The road reopened at 10.15am. 

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 8.33am of a vehicle fire in a layby near to the Stinsford Roundabout on the A35 near Dorchester.

"Officers have attended to assist the fire service and road closures have been put in place."

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue: "We were called at 8:30am today with reports of the vehicle fire on the A35 near Stinsford roundabout. 

"One fire engine from Dorchester was mobilised and on arrival found one private car well alight. 

"Two breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets to extinguish the the fire.

"The police are managing the traffic and one lane is currently closed."
