A museum in Portland will be hosting a family festival celebrating archaeology this summer.
On Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21 Portland Museum is hosting ‘Awesome Archaeology’ a weekend of activities and crafts to celebrate the Festival of Archaeology.
The festival is a two-week programme of archaeology events taking place across the UK for people of all ages and backgrounds from July 13 to 28. Festival events include guided walks, exhibitions, excavations, activities, and more.
From 10.30am to 3.30pm on the Saturday, Portland Museum will be inviting the public to meet professional archaeologist Ciorstaidh Hayward Trevarthen who works as a portable antiquities scheme officer at the Dorset History Centre. There will also be face painting from 12.30pm.
The following day will offer pigment painting hosted by Bournemouth University as well as hands on activities and crafts such as sort trays and mosaic designing.
There will also be refreshments available throughout the day.
Tickets cost £1 per child and £2.50. Members of the Young Archaeology club can enter for free upon showing proof of membership. After purchasing the ticket there will be a reduced entry free for the museum. Face painting is an additional cost.
