JUST one week is left until the world’s biggest beach polo event returns to Dorset.

Preparations are underway for Sandpolo at Sandbanks as up to 8,000 people are expected to turn out to see the professional polo players and their ponies.

The number one UK ladies professional player, the Princess of polo Hazel Jackson, will be thrilling spectators in the polo arena for team Whispering angel.

Now in its 17th year, the glamorous event is looking to be another sell-out weekend of fast-paced stadium polo, feasting and extravagant parties on the sand.

Sandpolo is played in an enclosed arena with spectators up close and personal and has often been referred to as ‘Hockey on Horse Back.’

It is a sport that demands exceptional physical and mental prowess; players must possess excellent riding skills as they navigate their horses at high speeds while manoeuvring the mallet to strike the ball accurately.

As the sun goes down, the energy continues into the evening with the after-party from 6pm to midnight on both nights.

Friday is ‘Boogie on the Beach’ featuring Brit Award winner and soul sensation Lemar, while Saturday’s closing party promises to be a genre-defying and decade-hopping night of entertainment.

Meanwhile on Saturday and closing the event will be DJ Sam Young, who has performed for George Clooney and Idris Elba.

Sam is one of the most in-demand celebrity DJs globally and his CV includes being personally selected by both George and Idris to DJ at their respective weddings.

Sandpolo founder Johnny Wheeler said: “The support for Sandpolo over the years has been phenomenal.

“It is always such a privilege to bring this spectacular event to Sandbanks.

“Looking back at the photos and films from last year, after a long and rainy winter, makes me incredibly proud of the team and everyone that supports our event.

“Above all, our guests who continually turn up and support us. I'm looking forward to July and some sunshine. I'll see you at the beach.”

Sandpolo returns on Friday and Saturday, July 12 and 13.
