A DORSET tank museum has launched a £50,000 fundraiser to revive a Hollywood movie star’s favourite vehicle.
Arnold Schwarzenegger served in the Austrian movie before he became a big-time film star.
After serving, Schwarzenegger bought a M47 tank and shipped it over to the US.
The military vehicle spent its life with the Italian army, which had over 2,500 other vehicles.
Chris van Schaardenburgh, Head of Collections at the museum said: “The M47 is the only one of its type in the Museum’s collection, and we are thrilled to work in partnership with Matthew Pyle to restore it to running order.”
“Matthew has successfully restored an M47 before, and visitors can see his M47 as a guest in the tankfest arena this weekend.”
Chris added: “This restoration will enable the Museum to add a missing piece to the story of Cold War tank development.”
Now, with the success of a previous restoration project of the FV4005, donations from supporters have made this project a possibility.
