Weymouth residents were given the opportunity to take part in political debate as a rather unique bus turned up on the seafront.

The Times Radio Election bus pulled up on Weymouth Esplanade yesterday afternoon to speak with members of the public in the seaside town about their concerns ahead of the general election.

Broadcaster Nick Ellerby spoke with people about the Bibby Stockholm barge, moored in Portland harbour, and also talked tactical voting with people.

During his broadcast he said south Dorset will be 'one to watch' having spoken with Liberal Democrat and Green voters who may vote Labour and Reform voters who may vote conservative to try and keep incumbent Richard Drax in power over Labour's Lloyd Hatton.

Karen Henriques, from Weymouth, was one person to take an interest in the bus and spoke about issues that concerned her.

She said: "For me, I have a young lady with disabilities and I feel there is not enough out there for her.

"She loves sport, but there is nothing out there  for her specifically - so it's a bit more difficult."

Westham resident Audrey Hart wanted to talk about anti-social behaviour - especially the amount of litter she sees in the area.

She said: "There is a little bit of anti-social behaviour around here.

"I live in Westham and it's a rubbish dump people just throw litter on the floor.

"The police should do more."

When asked about the 100 Days of Summer policing operation, Audrey said 'it wasn't enough.’

She added: "We have not seen to a single police officer or car whilst walking the length of the Esplanade, it would be nice to see them out there."

The Times Radio Election bus's next stop is in Portsmouth.
