A football club in west Dorset is hosting a free 'mini music festival' to help raise funds for the upcoming season and charity.

StagFest, organised by Maiden Newton and Cattistock Football Club, is returning this summer with more stalls and music planned than in previous years.

The music festival is being held on Saturday, July 20, from 1pm until 10pm at the club's Kennel Lane pitch in Cattistock.

This year will see a mini inflatable park, face painting, food stalls, two licensed bars, football related games, archery, axe-throwing and youth football.

There will also be live music from 1.30pm with Ruffdogg Elliot opening the bill plus local band Man Down, DJ Ant Elliot and the popular Dorset band Leggomen.

StagFest organiser Joe Hallett said: "The event is free as we want everyone from all backgrounds, lifestyles, financial situations to be able to attend and enjoy the day.

"Every year the event is sponsored and we couldn't be more appreciative to all the companies who donate to the cause and help us keep our costs down to maximise profits which will create a bigger donation to this year's choose charity, Dorchester Community Nursery School."

This year the club hope to raise £3000 which allow it to comfortably see through the coming season with league entry fees, cup fees, insurances and pitch maintenance.

Now in its fourth year, Stagfest has not only raised important club funds but it has also donated to we also choose a charities such the Steve Charles Help a Friend Fund, Maiden Newton Community Nursery.

Starting out as a small family event for the event has been welcomed by the community and is gathering support with Joe hoping it can become a mainstay on the Dorset summer events calendar.

He added: "The future plan is for Stagfest to grow and become a well known annual local event but we have to take it one step at a time.

"We took a gamble in 2020 and had a small club orientated day with a few live acts and stalls and the community really welcomed the idea and enjoyed it.

"Since then I have had amazing backing from the StagFest Committee and volunteers to help organise and run the event."

"There used to be a event held on our ground Kennel Lane which was hugely supportive and financially helpful to all the sports clubs in Maiden Newton and Cattistock but unfortunately this stopped a few years ago after leaving the village, so becoming self efficient and raising our own funds is vital."

The event is free for all to attend with free entry, free parking and free over night parking, until Sunday, July 21 until 12pm.
