The Mayor of Weymouth has chosen his charity for the year.
Cllr Jon Orrell who was elected as the Mayor of Weymouth on May 14, has named the Lantern Trust as his chosen charity.
The Lantern Trust is an independent registered charity that was founded in 1983 to help vulnerable and marginalised people in the Weymouth and Portland area.
Cllr Orrell said: “Homelessness blights our country; Weymouth has its own share. The Lantern has shone a light of hope in the darkness for many years.
"It has brought together services around housing and helps people into safe homes. I'm delighted to make it my special charity for the year.”
Cllr Orrell represents Melcombe Regis on both the town council and Dorset Council.
He was a GP for 25 years before becoming a councillor eight years ago.
