The police is urging the public to be cautious when leaving their cars at popular beauty spots as the weather gets better. 

Dorchester Police has issued a warning to drivers that better weather may lead to a rise in theft from vehicles at popular beauty spots. 

Officers advise not to leave personal belongings or valuables in motor vehicles even in the boot of vehicles, when you leave your vehicle unattended for any period of time.

Police say most thefts are often spur-of-the-moment decisions, made when valuables are left on view or lapses in security.

A spokesperson for Dorchester Police said: "With the better weather, there will be an increase of vehicles at popular beauty spots. This can often lead to a rise in theft from motor vehicles parked in the are

"Personal items such as mobile phones and tablets, handbags and work tools left somewhere obvious can be an attractive target, so please do take them with you where feasibly possible.

"Any item left in a vehicle can entice a thief to smash the window for a closer look. As such, we would always suggest that you don’t put items in the boot either, as you never know who may be watching from a distance."
