Delays and cancellations are expected on trains running from Weymouth to Southampton due to an on going signalling problem.

The 'track circuit failure' has been affecting the line between Brockenhurst and Beaulieu Road since yesterday morning.

South Western Railway has issued an update this morning saying that there may be delays and cancellations until the end of today as 'investigations are ongoing' into the problem.

A spokesperson for South Western Railway said: "There is a track circuit failure between Brockenhurst and Beaulieu Road.

"We have now received an update and disruption to our services is now expected until the end of the day on Thursday, June 20.

"As the investigations are ongoing this may change but we will update you if it does.

"A fault with the signalling system between Brockenhurst and Beaulieu Road means trains running towards Southampton Central will have to run at reduced speed.

"As a result, services between Bournemouth and Southampton Central may be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 20 minutes.

"For further information or onward travel advice please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point."
