A woman has been injured after being assaulted by a group of people in Weymouth.

The woman, who is in her 20s and from Portland, was walking along the Rodwell Trail when a group of four attacked her, leading to her being hospitalised, police say.

The injuries are not believed to be serious and it is understood that the group was known to her.

An elderly woman is believed to have assisted the victim following the attack.

Officers investigating the assault have just released the information surrounding the incident and are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

The incident took place at around 12pm on Wednesday, June 12, along the Rodwell Trail just pass Buxton Road.

Police constable Richard Symonds, of Weymouth Police, said: “This incident occurred in the middle of the day when there may have been a number of people in the area.

“I would ask anyone who saw what happened and has not already spoken to police to please come forward.

“In particular, I understand an elderly woman came to the aid of the victim during the incident.

"I am appealing to her to please come forward so we can take her account of what she witnessed.”
