No arrests have been made following a suspected arson attack in Upwey two months ago.

Police and firefighters were called to a car fire on the approach road to Upwey Train Station at 1.56am one morning.

A fire crew from Weymouth were able to extinguish the blaze with two hose reel jets whilst the firefighters wore breathing apparatus.

The car was later moved from the location and debris was left behind including charred parts of the vehicle and other litter.

Additionally, a distinct smell of burnt rubber remained lingering in the air, well into the afternoon.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 24, and following a 'number of enquiries carried out by officers, no arrests have been made.'

A spokesperson for Dorset Police: “At 2am on Wednesday, April 24, Dorset Police received a report of a car on fire at Upwey Railway Station in Weymouth. Officers attended the incident with the fire service.”

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call at 1.56am about a vehicle fire on Upwey Railway Station Approach Road. A crew from Weymouth attended the incident and two breathing apparatus wearers used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.”

The firefighters stop message, meaning the incident had been dealt with and no further action was required came in at 2.29am.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police has since confirmed; "Officers have carried out a number of enquiries and no arrests have been made."
