TRAFFIC is extremely slow on the main road between Weymouth and Dorchester following overnight roadworks.

Resurfacing work is being done overnight on the A354 at Monkton Hill.

It began last night, Monday June 17, and will continue until Thursday, June 20.

Motorists have been warned to expect delays travelling to and from Weymouth on the main route because of ramps and the temporary road surface.

Travel Dorset has warned of slow traffic on the A354 in the Monkton Hill area due to reduced speeds on the road.

Essential highway maintenance works to the route will continue tonight at 8pm until 6am.

The overnight works are expected to be completed by Thursday, June 20.

'Targeted and localised' repairs are being done to sections along 5.59km of the main road, Dorset Council says.

Motorists are advised to take a recommended diversion route of 18.72km via the A353, A352 and A35. National regulations state that traffic must be diverted onto roads with the same classification as the one that is closed.

Emergency access will be maintained at all times.
