AN objection to a drinks licence for a Wareham bistro will lead to a public hearing at the end of this week.
Nina’s Bistro, in West Street, wants to be able to serve drinks to customers having a meal up until 10pm every day.
The business, at the crossroads with South Street, has seating for 14 customers across six tables with stools under a communal breakfast bar.
Owner, Geanina Sofian, says she wants to be able to serve alcohol to customers who request it with a table meal after 5pm.
In her application she says it is not her intention to change the nature of the family-focused breakfast and lunch venue but would like the opportunity for customers having a meal to enjoy a glass of wine, or a beer with their meal.
“I have no intention of becoming a drinking establishment and, other than for occasional events will not be opening in the evenings,” she said.
No objections have been made to the application by Dorset Police or Environmental Health although there has been one public objection relating to the potential for additional noise for residents living in the area, including in flats above the Bistro.
That objection will result in Dorset councillors meeting as a licensing panel this Friday, June 21st , at County Hall, Dorchester to decide if the Premises Licence applied for should be granted.
