A high street has been cordoned off following a crash in Weymouth. 

Dorset Police received a report at 1.57pm of a crash on the High Street in Wyke Regis. 

A police cordon is in place as officers and paramedics are in attendance. 

One person is being treated by the ambulance service. 

An air ambulance was seen flying over Weymouth before landing near Sandsfoot on Rylands Lane at 4.15pm and the police confirmed it attended this incident.

One resident said: “There were two ambulances and paramedics here earlier when the road was closed. I hope anyone involved is okay.”

Another resident added: “I saw somebody lying in the ground- there were at least three ambulances.

"The ambulances were coming during the school run around 2.45pm down Shrubbery Lane. It’s awful, makes you feel sick actually.”

Steve Bulley, High Street resident said: “I saw the helicopter coming over. Someone told me there was a serious accident and the road’s been closed 2-3 hours."

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 1.57pm of a collision in High Street Wyke Regis.

"Emergency services have attended and one person is being treated by the ambulance service. We do not have an update on their condition at this time.

"We would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures are in place as we respond to this incident."

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance service said: “We were called at 1.50pm on Thursday, June 6 to an incident in Weymouth.

"We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer, and an air ambulance to the scene of the incident and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Dorset County Hospital."

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward who have seen anything after it was reported that a woman aged in her 70s was taken to hospital with serious injuries
