- ALTHOUGH arranged at short notice, the pet show held on the town green at Markham and Little Francis on Sunday, August 24 was well supported by over a hundred people and at times it looked like there were more dogs than people.
The weather was dry but cloudy and it was good to see so many of the dogs and their owners all gathered together and having a great time watching and taking part in the show and picnicking on the green.
Jack and Kelly's guinea pig won in the oddest pair category - paired up with a goldfish.
The smallest pets to be entered were a snail and a ladybird.
Well done to Hardy Avenue as three sets of pets won prizes from there.
Judges for the show were Jenny Reeve and Angie Dobson.
Included in the event were a table top sale, barbecue and face painting.
THE next event on Sunday, September 28, starting as 10am to 10.30am is to be a sponsored walk around the town green (accessed from the end of Markham Avenue off Chickerell Road opposite Fielding and Cumber vetinary surgery).
Entrants can choose to do 2 to 5 laps. Each lap is approximately 1 mile.
All ages can take part and dogs are welcome to join in too.
For sponsorship forms or more information, ring Sue on 01305 767819.
All proceeds towards Protection Society for Markham and Little Francis and the campaign to keep this open space as a freely accessed town green.
