THE family of a motorcyclist who died in a crash on the Coast Road have said they are "devastated".

Dorset Police received a report at 12.34pm on Saturday, June 1, of a collision on the B3157 Coast Road at Abbotsbury Hill involving a blue Yamaha motorcycle and a grey Volvo X90.

Emergency services attended and very sadly the motorcyclist – a Weymouth man aged in his 20s – was pronounced dead at the scene.

A statement issued on behalf of the family said: “The family have been informed and say that they are devastated by the news. 

"They ask that their privacy be respected as they manage their grief.”

Officers are renewing their appeal for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam, CCTV or GoPro footage to come forward as they continue to investigate a fatal road traffic collision near Abbotsbury.

Sergeant Nikki Burt, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of the young man who very sadly died, and we are doing all we can to support them at this extremely difficult time.

“We owe it to them to conduct a thorough investigation to establish the full circumstances of this collision and would again urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please make contact with us.

“I would also urge any motorists with dashcam who were travelling in the vicinity between 12.15pm and 12.45pm on Saturday, June 1, to please check their footage for anything that might assist our enquiries.”
