Motorists are being asked to take 'extra time' to look out for other road users as the busy summer season approaches.

The advice to be extra vigilant comes just days after a 20-year-old man from Weymouth died on the coast road near to Abbotsbury.

The collision, which took place just after 12.30pm on Saturday, June1, involved a blue Yamaha motorcycle and a grey Volvo XC90 on Abbotsbury Hill.

Dorset Police have now issued advice on road safety, in particular with a focus on motorcyclists safety.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said:  "As the weather gets warmer, more people will be using our roads.

"Whether you're a rider or a driver, please take extra time to look out for other road users.

"Motorcycles can be easy to miss.

"If you’re a driver: take time to look for motorcycles at junctions before pulling away, check your blind spots before changing lane, only overtake when safe to do so and allow plenty of room.

"If you’re a rider, please drive in accordance with the road conditions and always wear a helmet, suitable footwear and protective clothing, check that vehicle drivers have seen you before you make a move, only overtake when the path ahead is clear and it is safe to do so To learn more about staying safe as a rider, visit: https://orlo.uk/motorcycle-advice_9tsT9/"
