Around £500 worth of items from a shop in Weymouth has been recovered.
At around 9.30pm today police received reports of two alleged shoplifters who made off from JD Sports on Bond Street with a 'considerable amount of stock'.
After making enquiries, and receiving help from 'very observant local residents' police located the suspects in a taxi on the A35.
Around £500 of stock was recovered. Two men from Poole are now helping the police with their enquiries.
A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland Police said: "Officers from Weymouth and Portland NPT have been busy in the town centre today with 100 days of Summer.
"At around 9.30am we attended JD Sports, Bond Street, after reports of two shoplifters who had made off with a considerable amount of stock.
"After some quick enquiries and with the help of some very observant local residents, we located the suspects speeding along the A35 in a taxi.
"Around £500 in stock recovered, and two males from the Poole area now helping us with enquiries.
"A great team effort, with help from officers from the purple squad at Weymouth."
