Firefighters are urging Dorset residents to remain vigilant when having barbecues this summer.
Sherborne Fire Station has issued urgent safety advice reminding people of the fire risks when having a barbecue.
A spokesperson for the station said: “Barbecues are great when the sun is shining and you have friends and family to visit, but they do carry a fire risk.
“Never leave a barbecue unattended. Position the barbecue on a level site, away from wooden fencing, sheds, hedges, dry grass, and vegetation. Keep children, garden games and pets well away from the cooking area.”
The service also recommends keeping a bucket of water or sand nearby for emergencies and to never put hot ashes straight into a dustbin or wheelie bin as they could melt the plastic and cause a fire.
