Police have issued words of advice in the hopes of preventing keyless vehicle break-ins.
This follows on from reports in recent months of people using special equipment, such as a wire or antenna to gain access to cars with keyless entry. These incidents are usually done by two or more people, who move around to get a signal from the keys, which then gets relayed to the car.
To prevent this from happening, police have issued the following advice:
- Keep keys in a faraday bag or box- a tool that effectively blocks signals which the keys would emit.
- Store keys as far away from the vehicle as possible, which could be an upstairs bedroom, or a room further away from the car.
- Consider investment into steering wheel lock, dash cam, Ring doorbell or CCTV.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “In recent months there have been reports of people using special equipment, a wire or antenna to gain access to cars with Keyless Entry. This is usually done by two or more people, who will move around to get a signal from the keys, to be relayed to the car.
“If you notice any activity like described, please report it to Dorset Police using the Online Form, 101 or if a theft is in progress please dial 999.”
