A footpath on Portland is to be temporarily closed while a new water sewer is installed.

Public Footpath 16, which is between Shepherds Croft and Grove Road, will be closed for around six months and possibly longer if a closure order extension is needed.

The closure order will be in place from May 27 while Wessex Water installs a new temporary foul water sewer.

All pedestrians will be prohibited from proceeding along footpath 16, from grid reference SY 703 719 to grid reference SY 703 721 a distance of approximately 300 metres.

The order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users.

The closure order may be extended with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport, if necessary.
