Weymouth is bracing itself for a fun-packed weekend as a popular event returns – including a brand new feature for kids.
Fayre in the Square is taking place over the bank holiday weekend on Saturday May 25 and Sunday May 26 at Trinity Street and Hope Square.
The annual event is organised by the Weymouth Rotary Club which raises thousands of pounds for local good causes every year.
New to this year is ‘Kids Street’ where a marquee will be put up offering crafts and arty fun for kids who will be supervised by the team from Houseworks.
The Weymouth-based CIC is a community engagement service supporting families, young people and adults to thrive through creative practices, workshops and events.
Richard Burgess, Rotary vice president and event organiser said: “All the preparations are underway and we are hoping for good weather - if we get that it will be wonderful.
“There are lots of different stalls and lots of groups playing music and everything is set for a great weekend in Weymouth.
Speaking about the new ‘Kid’s Street’ addition, he added: “That is a new initiative from us.
“Traditionally we had playground rides but they are not coming, so we had to think of something exciting and we came up with Kids Street.
“Principally it is run by Houseworks who do craftworks for young people.
“They are going to culminate with a parade around the square with what the children have made during the day and we are hoping it catches on and becomes a permanent feature with Fayre on the Square.”
Live music acts over the weekend will include the likes of The Leggomen, Rock Apes, Crystal Ship and Total Madness to name a few.
There will also be a whole host of stalls set up along Trinity Street and Cove Row including Weymouth 51 Chilli Sauces, Sue Deverell Crafts and Kiec Garden Furniture.
Plenty of food stalls will be on offer as well, with Mad Mitch Whippy Ices, A Yum Yum Thai Food and South Coast Seafood.
And of course, the Rotary Cider Bar will be serving plenty of cold drinks or pop into Pilgrims House opposite the stage at Brewers Quay for a hotdog and a drink.
The newly refurbished building includes a new dance floor and flat screen TV, and people are encouraged to pop in and book for any events they may be planning.
Stalls from Dorset Wildlife Trust, Samaritans, the RNLI and the Veterans Hub will also be there, as well as our very Dorset Echo stall.
