FIREFIGHTERS were called to a huge blaze that broke out in a thatched property.

The fire started shortly after 10pm on Sunday and crews from across Dorset rushed to the scene.

Dorset Echo: Residents were advised to keep their windows closed due to low-lying smoke in the area.

People in the area believe that the fire was caused by lightning striking the house.

One wrote on social media: "Big fire in Stoborough, house struck by lightning.

"Hope everyone is alright."

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue service statement from Swanage Fire Station says: "Last evening, along with multiple other pumps, both engines were sent to a thatch fire in a pair of semi detached properties in Stoborough.

"All crews worked hard throughout the night with relief crews ongoing for the night and into this morning.

"This incident will be continuing for some time and for most of Monday.

"All the residents were evacuated from the two properties before the fire service arrived."

Dorset Echo: Firefighters were called to a blaze in StoboroughWareham Fire Station wrote on social media: "We are dealing with a property fire in Stoborough.

"This is creating a lot of low lying smoke in the area so we are advising local residents to keep windows closed."

There are no reports of any injuries.
