Dorset residents are being warned not to eat certain bread products after a food recall was issued.

The Food Standards Agency has issued a recall of food products from Bread Spread Ltd, which includes products such as rolls, sandwiches and baguettes.

Dorset Council has urged people to not eat any of the products dated up to and including May 18 2024 after Listeria was found in some products.

A spokesperson for Dorset Council said: "Attention food businesses and consumers.

"Listeria found in some chilled and ready-to-eat foods from Bread Spread Ltd, use by dates up to and including May 18 2024.

"Product names are Bread Spread, Orbital Foods or Perfect Bite. Remove from sale immediately and do not consume.

If you stock the products, please kindly email us at: envhealth@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk."

Advice on the FSA website says that the presence of Listeria monocytogenes makes these products unsafe to eat.

It also states that symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.
