INSPECTORS have rated a Weymouth primary school as 'Good' in a recent report.
The education watchdog, Ofsted, rated St John’s Church of England Primary School, in Coombe Avenue, as 'Good' overall, the second highest rating available.
The early years provision at the school was deemed 'Outstanding'.
The quality of education, behaviour and attitude, personal development and leadership and management were also rated as 'Good' by inspectors.
Within days, the school also received its statutory church school inspection which called the school ‘highly effective’.
Ofsted report that children at St John’s have an ‘exceptional’ start to their education, developing confidence from an early age.
It said: “Children develop excellent learning behaviours, high levels of concentration and resilience. They concentrate on tasks for sustained periods of time. Staff support children to develop a rich vocabulary.”
Judged ‘Good’ overall by Ofsted, the school was commended for its broad and ambitious curriculum, from nursery through to Year 6, and instilling in children a passion and love of reading.
St John’s, which has more than 230 pupils on roll, was noted as being a warm and friendly school, with a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Pupils with special educational needs and disabilities are also well supported and they participate in all aspects of school life, the report added.
The inspectors noted two areas of improvement for the school, saying that the implementation of the curriculum is "not yet fully effective" across all subjects and classes, meaning pupils do not build there knowledge "as well as they could.
The report also said in some subjects, pupils were not consistently able to recall their prior learning, meaning they could not connect the prior knowledge to what they are currently learning.
The school is part of the Diocese of Salisbury Academy Trust and educates children from as young as two years old in its nursery provision.
In addition to Ofsted the school has also recently been inspected by SIAMS which is a church school equivalent of Ofsted. The SIAMS report found St John’s to be a highly effective church school where pupils thrive and all have opportunities to flourish.
School leaders have expressed their delight with the latest inspection outcomes.
Headteacher, Mrs Amanda Aze said: “As a school, we set high expectations and believe that every child can achieve incredible things.
"We have a fantastic staff team who work very hard to ensure children achieve their best in all areas of their learning. There is amazing team spirit at St John’s and we are all super pleased with the inspection outcomes.’’
Mark Lacey, CEO of the Diocese of Salisbury Academy Trust stated: “We are delighted with these outcomes which we feel truly reflects the strength of the work undertaken at St John’s by Mrs Aze and her team.
"We know they will continue building on what has been achieved, particularly in their Early Years, and that they will push on to even greater heights in the months and years to come."
