A care home resident who hasn’t ridden a horse since she was a child was given the opportunity at a Dorset stables.

Care home resident Sheena rode Sally the 15 hands, two inches tall horse at the Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) Saddle Club in Bovington.

The visit was arranged in response to Sheena’s special wish to visit a stable and ride a horse after taking up horse-riding as a child.

Sheena, a resident of Dorset House in Poole, said: “I used to ride a horse called Briar as a child all through the school summer holidays. I haven’t ridden one since then, so I enjoyed it, as I never thought I’d get to do it again.”

Stephanie Buchanan, Yard Manager at RAC Saddle Club in Bovington, who recently received a BEM in honour of her work supporting the community, said: “Our aim is to give back to people of all ages in the community, so we were delighted to enable Sheena to ride a horse and to welcome the other Dorset House residents to meet some of the animals and have a tour of the facilities.”
