These old pictures show Weymouth and Portland in years gone by and the same view today.
It's amazing to see just how much has changed from these old views of the area.
We see so many pictures of Weymouth Town Bridge from its side, it's refreshing to see a different perspective here.
These now and then town bridge approach pictures were shared with our nostalgia group We Grew Up in Weymouth and Portland by James Brown.
They show the approach to Weymouth town centre and the foray into what was traditionally known as Melcombe Regis just after you walk over the town bridge.
The year of the old photo is unknown but the buildings are recognisable.
You can make out names like Bagg & Sons and Strong and Williams. It looks like the photo was taken in the wintertime with snow on the ground.
Here's how the same scene looks today.
Here we have a wonderful old image of the area's old railway line.
This view of the old line alongside Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour evokes the golden age of steam as a locomotive travels along.
This golden age of steam saw trains make their way between Weymouth and the island.

The naval dockyard, seen in the background, was at the heart of island life. That too has disappeared now.
Here you can see the present day view from the same spot.
Here's an old picture of Weymouth promenade and Brunswick Terrace. It comes from an Edwardian postcard.
The promenade is bustling with people and you can see a performance on a bandstand on the beach.
Here's the same scene pictured in more recent times.
