Dorset music lovers are invited to an evening of swing at a special concert to commemorate D-Day.
Dorchester Arts are hosting the legendary orchestra at the Hardye Theatre at the Thomas Hardye School on Queen’s Avenue in the county town.
Taking place on Saturday, May 11, organisers say the event marks the only Glenn Miller Orchestra UK tour this year, and will feature the exact line-up devised by the legendary big band leader.
This will be alongside the harmonies of the Moonlight Serenaders, vocals of the orchestra’s featured vocalists, as well the orchestra’s own swinging jazz band, The Uptown Hall Gang.
Wartime music will be played throughout the evening as the town prepares to commemorate the eightieth anniversary of D-Day.
Classical arrangements of Miller’s most beloved tunes will be performed, including In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade, Little Brown Jug and Tuxedo Junction.
The performance will be directed by Ray McVay. It will be one of 12 performances in the orchestra's tour which will also see the group perform at Bournemouth Pavilion on Sunday, August 4.
Doors and bar for the event open at 6pm, with the performance set to start at 7pm. Tickets are £35 or £33 for members and concessions. The performance will be seated.
