An extremely over the top and ‘kitsch’ property tucked away in Weymouth could be one of the town’s best kept secrets.
Little Nan’s is a unique setting which can be found in Chapelhay and is not only a holiday home which can be rented out on Airbnb, but owner Tristan Scutt also lives there when he’s not working at his quirky cocktail bar of the same name in Deptford, south east London.
Tristan was also behind the Little Nan's pop-up bar on St Nicholas Street in Weymouth in 2022 which served cocktails served in teapots and vases topped with nostalgic sweeties.
Inside the Airbnb property meanwhile it is as if each decade from the 60s to the 90s exploded on the property, resulting in a leopard print and neon lovers paradise with truly one of a kind objects dispersed throughout.
Although the rooms are big, they are crammed full of memorabilia and eccentric objects from tigers, flamingos, the cookie monster and prints of Queen Elizabeth II.
The further you venture into this property the more bizarre it gets - transporting you to a whole other planet - let alone decade.
There is plenty of EastEnders memorabilia scattered throughout the home and above the kitchen units, there is even a sign which reads ‘Get Out of My Pub.’
Tristan, 42, said: “I started the bar about 11 years ago and when it got to lockdown, I wanted to think about moving to the seaside. My dad is originally from Dorchester and growing up, all my holidays were in Weymouth and they were such happy memories.
“It was during the third lockdown that I eventually ended up moving and every day was spent on making stuff and creating stuff for the house.”
He explained that his friends kept telling him, ‘You should make this an Airbnb,’ although it was never his intention to do so.
However, as most of his weekends were spent working at the bar, he decided to go through with the idea and share the unique property with the world.
A lot of the inspiration for the property came from Tristan’s ‘little nan’ Jojo.
Tristan said: “My nan passed away and left behind lots of ornaments.”
He added: “I love EastEnders, and my nan did as well – so the idea started with the bar and I also have a big obsession with Pat Butcher.”
Pam St Clement who played the iconic Pat Butcher role in the soap has even visited Tristan’s bar, alongside a number of other famous faces.
The owner described the place as being ‘like a little kitsch haven and a great escape,’ as well as being particularly ‘nostalgic and British.’
He has had brilliant feedback from those that have stayed and also suggested that ‘if you’re going you book in, you know what it’s going to be like.’
The general bookings that he gets are for groups celebrating birthdays, hen parties and other special occasions.
Tristan said: “We give our birthday guests the same treatment as if they were celebrating in the bar, we would make them their own special cocktails made from all their favourite ingredients and flavours.
“We leave a tea pot cocktail, hot mulled apple juice, a card and a birthday present.”
The property is not just for show and Tristan added, ‘I have always lived like this,’ explaining that his flat in London is exactly the same.
