A person was arrested on suspicion of three offences after a foot chase near a main road.
The incident is said to have occurred some time yesterday (Wednesday, March 20) when police stopped a vehicle on the A354 relief road from Weymouth to Dorchester.
It was suspected that the person the Weymouth Neighbourhood Team stopped was disqualified from driving.
As the police were conducting their necessary checks, the driver of the vehicle made off on foot.
After what police described as a ‘short foot chase across fields,’ a person was caught and arrested on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified.
They also failed a roadside drug swipe and was further arrested on suspicion of drug driving, as well as driving without a licence.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “Officers from Weymouth Neighbourhood Team stopped a vehicle on the A354.
"It was suspected that the driver was disqualified from driving. Strangely, the driver didn't want to hang around whilst officers conducted the necessary checks, and decided to make off on foot.
"After a short foot chase across fields, (a person) was detained and arrested on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified.
“To add to his woes, they failed a roadside drug swipe. He was further arrested on suspicion of drug driving and driving without insurance.”
