A CAR crashed into a greenhouse and destroyed around 3,000 plants at a garden centre in Weymouth.
At around 3pm on Friday, March 15, a car crashed into a greenhouse, shattering the glass panels and destroying the plants.
The car hit a wall and continued into the greenhouse which is located just in front of the small car park.
No one was hurt in the crash but the car was written off and damage was caused to the greenhouse, which a staff member said was their newest and "most precious" greenhouse at the centre.
Staff on Saturday morning were working on a temporary fix to cover the exposed wall.
A spokesperson for Island Garden Nurseries said: "About 3,000 plants were affected, we had just potted them all up in the greenhouse.
"We grow everything here, pot everything here, we had just finished putting the new plants into pots and setting it all up, they have all been destroyed.
"It was our most beautiful and most precious glass house that we had built last year.
"It is soul-destroying to see the damage."
The garden centre currently only has a small area for cars to park, with a small area for cars to turn and exit.
The owners of the site have submitted a planning application to build a new bigger car park with 40 spaces, however, this has not been approved yet by either Weymouth Town Council or Dorset Council.
Weymouth Town Council recently raised concerns over a planning application from the garden centre due to the "obscurity" of the planning applications submitted.
Staff at the garden centre said the crash outlined the need for a new bigger car park.
The spokesperson for the garden centre added: "We have got a planning application with the council to build a new car park, this is exactly why.
"We can't progress without a new car park, we are an independent business and we need to be able to move forward
"Thankfully no one was hurt, it could have been so much worse.
"We want to thank our customers for their support we have had so many messages from people."
