CURRYS in Weymouth will close its doors for the final time today.
The retail giant announced in January that today will be the final day of trading at the Jubilee Retail Park site.
Staff at the Weymouth store have been made aware and have been offered to be redeployed to stores in Dorchester or Poole.
No reason has been given for the closure. Previously, Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce President Paul Appleby, said the announcement came "out of the blue" and said it was "very regrettable" the retail giant was leaving the town.
It means a huge unit at the retail park will become available.
Weymouth Town Councillor for Melcombe Regis, Jon Orrell, said he had a personal "soft spot" for the electrical store.
He said: "It is a very big loss for the town centre.
"It was incredibly handy having a shop so close, I used to get all of my family's laptops there for university.
"I will miss not being able to use it and the excellent service they gave in there.
Earlier in the week, shoppers visited the store to search for any last minute bargains.
George and Jennifer Edden from Weymouth said they regularly shop at Currys.
Jennifer said: "I think it is despicable, it is a great shame to see it go.
"We don't like shopping online so we will probably have to go to Dorchester now.
"I would like to see Primark replace it."
George added: "There are so many shops closing in Weymouth now. It will be a ghost town soon."
A Currys spokesperson previously said: “We can confirm that our Weymouth store will be closing on March 1, as the lease comes to an end.
"Colleagues impacted have been made aware of this decision and will be redeployed to local stores such as Dorchester or Poole, if they wish.
"We will also support them if they choose to move to another business.”
Our customers in Weymouth will still be able to find all the tech they need at our stores in either Dorchester or Poole, where our colleagues will be looking forward to helping them.”
