Beach levelling works which saw a section of Weymouth beach closed are set to finish tomorrow night.
The annual works to level out the sand on the beach began on Monday, February 26, and are on track to finish tomorrow evening (Thursday, February 29) at 7pm.
Due to the nature of the works, the closure remained in place overnight, and entry/exit points from the beach were closed off by barriers, to allow for safe working and to protect the public while the heavy machinery was in operation.
The work has been carried out at this time of year for several reasons including getting the beach level before the beach huts go back on.
Over the winter, bad weather and high tides also move the sand around, so doing these works now will help to get the beach level for the busy summer season, replenishing the sand from the sand bars.
