A PLAN to reduce the speed limits on five roads to 20mph has been supported by Weymouth town councillors.
The five roads included in the plan are Connaught Road, Cross Road, Down Road, Glebe Close and Rectory Road.
All of the roads make up a "rat-run" between Chickerell Road and Buxton Road and surround Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School off Cross Road.
At a meeting of the Planning and Licensing Committee at Weymouth Town Council, committee members were asked to support the recommendation to reduce the speed limits on the roads to 20 miles per hour.
Cllr Luke Wakeling said: "I think it is an entirely reasonable suggestion to reduce the speed limit past the school as it is a rat-run.
"The roads are a cut-through between the two main roads, Chickerell Road and Buxton Road.
"I think it is a sensible thing to do and I wish they would do a few more of these.
"I think that we should support this."
The committee voted unanimously in favour of supporting the recommendation, which will now be decided by Dorset Council.
A public notice for the speed limit reduction is available on the Dorset Council website.
There is limited time left for residents to comment on the proposals, which should be sent through the website by no later than Friday, March 1.
