IT is time to go back into the 90s for an evening of dance music in aid of a youth club.
An evening of 90s Dance Music at Weymouth’s Pavilion is set to thrill music and dance lovers and raise vital funds for the area’s only remaining full-time youth and community centre, STEPS Club for Young People.
The ‘Nostalgia - Back to the 90s’ event will be held on Friday, April 19 between 7.30pm and 1am.
It will feature sets by many leading DJs performing entirely on vinyl, bringing an authentic mix of 90s dance, rave and hardcore will be DJ Richie T and BarnStorma MC - who recently gained a number 1 in the UK Hardcore mix charts - along with DJ Hoody, B2B, DJ Dubya, G-Nutz, Kels, DJ Will and MC Benjee.
The event is 18+ and features a mix of 90s dance anthems, ‘oldskool’ rave and hardcore.
Principal Youth Worker at STEPS Tom Lane said: “We’re delighted that the next nostalgia event will raise funds for STEPS in our 60th Year.
"The charity has run the club for over seven years after Dorset Council stopped running a youth service in 2016.
"We have to raise around £90,000 a year to keep the club going, so we hope everyone who knows the value of our work will come along and support the event – it should be great fun
“The club provides a range of developmental opportunities and support for young people as well as much-needed facilities for a range of community groups, including Dorset Abilities Group, Let’s Dance, the Space Youth Project, youth football teams and others.
“We are just launching a two-year Youth Music Project which will include young people learning DJ Skills. Hopefully, one or two might prove good enough to perform a set at The Pavilion. I’d like to thank Rich Talmage and the Nostalgia team for choosing to support STEPS and our young people.”
Richard Talmage, aka DJ Richie T, added: “Many local people will have attended STEPS (formerly Weymouth Boys Club) back in the 1990s and will remember both the club and the music fondly.
“We chose to support STEPS as they are a local charity who do a lot of amazing work with the young people of this town.
“Of course, nostalgia wouldn’t be complete without talented vinyl DJs on the line-up – it wouldn’t be a true 90s event if it wasn’t all on vinyl”
Tickets are £15 (reduced from the usual £20) and are now on sale from the Weymouth Pavilion Box Office on 01305 783225 or via the Pavilion website here: weymouthpavilion.com/shows/nostalgia-back-to-the-90s/
