A man has been left with ‘significant injuries' after reportedly being attacked by a group of people who broke into his home armed with weapons.
Police are investigating the disturbing incident which saw armed officers swoop on a road in Bridport following the early hours attack which resulted in a man being treated in hospital.
Three men - including one from Weymouth and one from Portland - have been arrested on suspicion of carrying out an aggravated burglary alleged to have happened last week.
It is understood a machete, hammer baseball bat and an axe were used.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “At around 2.30am on Tuesday, February 20, Dorset Police received a report of an aggravated burglary at an address in Princess Road in Bridport.
“It is reported that a number of men, who were in possession of offensive weapons, gained entry to the property.
“A man in his 30s was taken to hospital for treatment to a significant injury to his arm as well as cuts to his head, ear and legs.
"Following enquiries from officers, a 46-year-old man from Portland, a 39-year-old man from Weymouth and a 27-year-old man from Beaminster were arrested on suspicion of committing the aggravated burglary.
“It is believed that the arrested men are known to the victim. They have been released on police bail as the investigation continues.”
