A woman was taken to hospital after a car collided with a telegraph pole.

Dorset Police received a report of a vehicle collision on the A357 at Bagber, near Sturminster Newton last night.

It was reported the vehicle collided with a telegraph pole and the woman had become trapped. 

Crews from Sturminster Newton Fire Station and Blandford Fire Station were called to the scene to free the driver. 

She was then taken to hospital for treatment. The severity of the injuries is not yet known. 

Road closures were put in place to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

The road was subsequently cleared at 10.15pm.  

A spokesperson from Dorset Police said: "We were called at 7.37pm on Thursday February 22 2024 to a report of a single vehicle collision on the A357 at Bagber. It is reported that the vehicle collided with a telegraph pole.

"Officers attended with the fire and ambulance services. The road was closed. A woman was taken to hospital for treatment by the ambulance service. Road closure was lifted at around 10.15pm.

"There is no update on the severity of injuries."

A spokesperson from Sturminster Newton Fire and Rescue said: "We were called to a road traffic collision on the A357 Road Lane Farm, Bagber at 8:44pm yesterday. 

"One fire engine from Sturminster Newton was mobilised along with one from Blandford and on arrival found one car had hit a telephone pole. 

"Crews used cutting equipment to remove the roof of the vehicle and the casualty was extricated with assistance from the ambulance.  The stop message came in at 9:40pm."
