MEMBERS of a group who helped devise the Weymouth Neighbourhood Plan have been recognised with an award by the Mayor of Weymouth.

Each year the Mayor awards the Ken Issacs Rose Bowl to a group or organisation which has done impressive work in the community.

This year, Mayor Cllr Kate Wheller chose Weymouth residents who are members of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group for the honour.

As well as the rose bowl presentation made at a meeting of the full council, certificates were also awarded to the residents in recognition of the depth of research each member of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group has done to help get the plan to where it is now over several years.

The area covered in Weymouth’s Neighbourhood Plan is the largest in Dorset and one of the biggest in England and sets policies for the town’s future development to 2038.

The current plans include allocating land for more than 450 affordable homes, making new homes environmentally friendly to help reduce bills and emissions, protecting 48 local green spaces and making sure there are jobs and training opportunities so people can stay local.

The consultation for the plan ended on December 15, 2023.

The Mayor described it as "an extraordinary piece of work", adding that the eventual success of the project will be "due to their work and commitment".
