A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of rape following an investigation by detectives.
As previously reported, Dorset Police received a report at 10.37pm on Sunday 18 February 2024 raising concern for the welfare of a woman in the Park District area.
Officers attended and located the woman, aged in her 20s, who reported she had been raped by a man in an alleyway off Stanley Street and Queen Street between approximately 9.15pm and 9.30pm earlier in the same evening.
Following initial enquiries by detectives, a 61-year-old man from Weymouth has now been arrested on suspicion of rape.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Third, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “We are continuing to appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw or heard anything suspicious to please contact us.
“I would also again ask residents with home CCTV or motorists with a dashcam fitted who were travelling in the vicinity to please check their footage for anything of relevance.”
