The decision has been made as to which colour a major Weymouth landmark will light up each month.

The Jubilee Clock along Weymouth Esplanade is set to light up different colours throughout the year once again, to celebrate the amazing work of local charities and community groups.

The first group to be featured this month is Weymouth Girlguiding which will see the clockface lit up blue from February 21-23.

Jane Macleod of Weymouth Girlguiding said: “Through fun, friendships, challenge and adventure, Girlguiding inspires girls to discover and become their best. The lighting of the Weymouth Jubilee Clock in blue is a celebration of all the girls, young women and adults who are members and volunteers with the national charity. Girlguiding is going strong, and all groups enable girls to have new opportunities and experiences.”

The full list is as follows:

February: Blue for Weymouth Girlguiding, February 21 – 23.

March: Dark Blue for Weymouth Street Pastors, March 29 – 31.

April:  Green for Weymouth Samaritans, April 19 – 22.

May: Orange for Repair Café, May 10-12.

June: Red, white and blue for the 80th anniversary of D-Day, June 6.

July: Blue for MV Freedom, July 19 – 22.

August: Blue for The Will Mackaness Trust, August 5 – 8.

September: Blue for the Alzheimer’s Society, September   20 – 23.

October: Green for The Nothe Fort, October 25-28.

November: Red for the Royal British Legion, November 7 – 11.

December: Yellow, red and blue for The Salvation Army, December 7 – 9.

The decision is made by Weymouth Town Council, based on nominations from the public.

Weymouth Mayor, Cllr Kate Wheller said: “I was delighted to have been involved in the decision making of which charities and groups will be lit up by the clock this year. We have some amazing charities and communities that will be recognised throughout 2024 by the Jubilee Clock.

“It’s an outstanding tourist attraction in Weymouth which many people like to photograph, so by lighting it in different colours we hope it will raise awareness about the work of these organisations. Weymouth Town Council will also light the clock red, white and blue on June 6, to commemorate the 80th anniversary since the D-Day landings.”
