A broken down Waitrose delivery van was partially blocking the Weymouth Relief Road and caused severe delays to traffic.
The van had broken down on the northbound carriageway from Weymouth to Dorchester, near the Stadium Roundabout, with drivers experiencing delays of up to 15 minutes as the headed out.
Dorset Police attended the incident and have now cleared the road.
Traffic was queueing back to Bincombe Down and the average speed was about 10mph, according to the AA route planner, as road users made their way through the rush hour traffic.
All lanes have now fully reopened and traffic is returning to normal
A spokesperson for Dorset police said: "We were called at 7.32am to the report of broken down van on the A354 near the Stadium Roundabout
"The road was cleared at around 8.05am and the vehicle is awaiting recovery."
