Construction workers are to leave Fairfield Road in Dorchester today - but it will remain closed.
Cabling for new streetlighting is awaiting installation, which means Dorset Council won’t be able to open the new footway alongside the road until the lighting work is complete.
Improvement work got underway last month to make the busy link road safer for pedestrians.
It came after several injury accidents in the mixed car and pedestrian location in recent years.

Fairfield Road runs between Weymouth Avenue and Maumbury Road and divides Dorchester Market.
The work intends to improve street lighting on the road as well as adding a pedestrianised space at the busy eastern end by restricting vehicle access.
Drivers using the car park will need to continue to enter and exit via Upper Fairfield Road, by the skate park.
When the cabling is complete, the team will return to finish the new footway surface and reopen the Maumbury Road end to vehicles.
