Two people were injured and taken to hospital after a car crash along the Weymouth Relief Road earlier today.
The crash involved two cars and forced a road closure and lengthy tailbacks along the A35 as emergency services responded to the incident on the A354 at Monkton Hill.
Two fire engines were also called to the crash from Weymouth and Dorchester to make the road safe.
The road has now reopened.
Three ambulances and an air ambulance were called to the collision and took two people to Dorset County Hospital to receive treatment.
Dorset Police had shut the A354 between Dorchester and Weymouth from the Stadium roundabout to the Jurassic roundabout causing heavy traffic along the A35 up to Monkeys Jump roundabout in Poundbury.
Traffic had also come a standstill in Upwey on the B3159 as drivers attempted to get from Weymouth to Dorchester as police had blocked off all routes on to the A354.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We were called at 9.29am to a report of a two vehicle collision on the A354 between Dorchester and Weymouth.
"Officers are in attendance. The road is closed between the Stadium roundabout and the Jurassic roundabout."
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to the A35 football stadium roundabout at 9.33am this morning (February 15) following a two vehicle road traffic collision.
"We have two crews in attendance, from Dorchester and Weymouth, and the road from Weymouth is currently closed.
"One casualty is in the care of the ambulance service, and firefighters have made the scene safe. We will soon be leaving the scene."
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 09.26am on Thursday, February 15 to a road traffic collision in Dorchester.
"We sent three double-crewed land ambulances. an operations officer and an air ambulance and we conveyed two patients by land ambulances to Dorset County Hospital.”
